G. Pulla Reddy Engineering College is the brainchild of late Sri G.Pulla Reddy (12-08-1920 to 09-05-2007), the renowned philanthropist. His love for education and care for his native district manifested themselves in the form of this college. Inaugurated by the world-famous Ophthalmologist Padmabhushan Dr. P. Shiva Reddy on 22nd February1985 and managed by G. Pulla Reddy Charities Trust, The College celebrated its silver jubilee year during 2009-10 and completed 40 years of its service in Engineering Education. The college is situated on Kurnool-Chittoor National Highway No. 40 and is 6 km from City. The College offers 5 UG programs, 5 PG programs, and Ph.D. programs in all branches of Engineering. The college has been granted AUTONOMOUS STATUS by University Grants Commission, New Delhi, with effect from the academic year 2006-2007. The college has the permanent affiliation to Jawaharlal Nehru Techno-logical University Anantapur, Ananthapuramu, and is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and accredited by NBA of AICTE and NAAC of UGC, New Delhi. Since the college has obtained A+ grade, it is granted Autonomous status for 10 years straight away. Sprawling over a forty-acre land, the college has the built-up accommodation of nearly 3 lakh sq.ft. All the labs of engineering and sciences are well equipped and are being updated every year with the addition of new equipment. The labs of the college are offering Testing and Consultancy services to several Govt. and private organizations

The Department of Humanities and Basic Sciences was established at the inception of the college in 1985. This department plays a vital role in guiding the students so that there is a smooth transition to the study they undergo in Engineering and Technology. Faculty of this department belong to different disciplines, namely Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Humanities. The Department is recognized for carrying research work leading to award of Doctoral and M.Phil. Degrees. Department conducts seminars and workshops for the benefit of students and faculty on interdisciplinary and general topics of contemporary.

The department has well qualified and skilled faculty, and they have thorough understanding of the subject and convey subject matter and lecture to the students in a creative way. The department labs with well equipment imparts practical knowledge in the creative manner. The department has been conducting quality of research in the fields of Nanotechnology, Atmospheric Science, Renewable energy, organic and inorganic chemistry, and published research papers in peer-reviewed scientifically sound research journals and few of them selected as the best research papers of the journal. The faculty has been acting as the reviewer of the reputed journals and is endorsed by Elsevier.
